In brief: Colombia’s aviation sector hit by fuel shortages

*Colombia’s mining & energy ministry has announced that it is taking urgent measures to ensure the supply of fuel to the country’s aviation sector, after the Colombian airline Avianca and the local branch of Chile's Latam Airlines both cancelled flights due to fuel shortages. The mining & energy ministry said that Colombia’s state oil company, Ecopetrol, has authorised the import of 100m barrels of Jet-A1 aviation fuel, after production was affected by a power outage at Ecopetrol’s refinery in Cartagena, Bolívar department. Colombia’s civil aviation authority (Aerocivil) announced yesterday that there are sufficient reserves of aviation fuel in the country and that it will not accept the cancellation of flights by airlines citing fuel shortages.
