GUATEMALA: Arévalo engaged in ‘lawfare’ with attorney general’s office

Guatemala’s attorney general’s office is making a fresh bid to lift President Bernardo Arévalo’s immunity from prosecution so that he can be charged with corruption. No evidence was provided for the allegations against Arévalo brought by senior figures at the attorney general’s office themselves discredited by corruption and sanctioned by more than 40 countries. Creating legal hurdles for Arévalo is their overriding priority.
