*Bolivia’s Interior Minister Eduardo del Castillo has said that the police will intervene to clear roadblocks that have been set up by transport workers in protest over shortages of diesel. The protests were resumed on 30 July after causing intermittent disruption in June. The government claims that the fuel shortages are being exaggerated by its opponents to trigger protests against President Luis Arce and further worsen the shortages by preventing the distribution of fuel. The transport workers union Cámara Boliviana de Transporte (CBT) is currently waging a three-day nationwide campaign of roadblocks that is due to end today (2 August). Armin Dorgathen, the president of state hydrocarbon company Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), said yesterday that the company will raise its fuel deliveries to 180% of normal levels to restore supply following the lifting of the roadblocks.
