COLOMBIA: Deforestation falls to lowest level on record

Colombia’s left-wing government led by President Gustavo Petro is making strong progress in its promise to slash deforestation. On 8 July, Environment Minister Susana Muhamad presented new figures showing that deforestation in 2023 fell to its lowest level on record, dropping by 36% year-on-year.
