MEXICO: Sheinbaum’s cabinet continues to fill

Mexico’s President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum has continued her weekly drip feeding of cabinet announcements, unveiling on 18 July those who will head up the labour (STPS), tourism (Sectur), and culture ministries when she takes office on 1 October. The triple announcement came after Sheinbaum announced only one, albeit very important position, the previous week, revealing that she was reprising the role of chief of staff and that a notable leftist figure would be returning to the government to fill it. The appointments continue to signal a focus on technical expertise, as well as a balance between loyalists to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and those more closely aligned with Sheinbaum herself.
