*The Spain-headquartered business group Duro Felguera has been contracted by Pemex Transformación Industrial, a subsidiary of Mexico’s state oil company Pemex, to build a fertiliser plant in Mexico’s Veracruz state, in collaboration with the Mexican branch of Portuguese construction firm Mota-Engil. The US$1.2bn project, located in Poza Rica municipality, will be executed in three phases: feasibility studies and engineering (six months), construction (42 months), and technical operation (20 years). The plant, located in the Escolín Petrochemical Complex, will produce over 700,000 tonnes of ammonia, urea, and Adblue diesel exhaust fluid annually, boosting Mexico’s agricultural sector and reducing fertiliser imports. Duro Felguera said that the project will increase Mexico’s agricultural autonomy and environmental sustainability.
