In brief: Mexico's industrial production up in May

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has published the latest data for its monthly index of industrial activity (Imai), showing that industrial production rose by 1.0% year-on-year in May 2024. The rise was primarily driven by a 10.2% boost in construction and a 5.1% increase in utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas). However, mining registered a 2.4% decline, and manufacturing fell by 1.4%. In monthly terms, industrial production was up 0.7% in May, with utilities up 3.5%, construction by 2.5%, and mining by 2.0%, while manufacturing remained unchanged.
