In brief: Mexico agrees to review another US labour request

*Mexico’s ministries of economy (SE) and labour (STPS) have released a joint statement saying that the government has accepted a request from the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) to review whether workers’ rights are being denied at the ammunition manufacturer Industrias Tecnos, S.A. de C.V., located in Cuernavaca, the capital of Morelos state. The USTR filed the request on 24 June 2024 under the rapid response labour mechanism (RRM) of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The joint statement announced Mexico’s agreement to the request and declared that the STPS will now conduct an internal review within a 45-day deadline, as of the complaint’s date of receipt. The USTR notes that this marks the 24th time that it has formally invoked the RRM.
