In brief: Argentina extends gas supply contract with Bolivia

*Argentina’s state-owned energy company Energía Argentina Sociedad Anónima (Enarsa) and Bolivia’s state hydrocarbon company Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) have signed an extension of their contract to supply natural gas to northern and central Argentina, now including the period between August and September of this year. The contract permits the supply of up to 4m cubic metres per day (MMm3/d) and aims to meet domestic demand whilst Argentine natural gas transportation company Transportadora de Gas del Norte (TGN) completes the reversal of the northern gas pipeline, which carries gas from Salta province in northwestern Argentina to the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. A statement issued by Enarsa on 16 June says that the reversion project “is estimated to be operational on September 15 and will supply the northern provinces with an additional 5 MMm3/day and in a second stage another 4 MMm3/day.”
