*Argentina’s presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, has announced that the economy ministry has achieved full adhesion to the controversial debt cancellation proposal that Cammesa, the state-owned wholesale electricity company, had made with energy companies. On 8 May the government offered to pay debts owed by Cammesa to gas production and electricity generation companies by means of a sovereign dollar-denominated bond maturing in 2038. Adorni added that the energy sector “has an enormous potential for the country with a projected surplus of around US$25bn by 2030”. On social media, Economy Minister Luis Caputo highlighted the “good predisposition of the businesspeople from the [energy] sector who, understanding the inherited situation, adhered to the proposal”.
