*Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña has met with delegations from US technology companies including Google, Nvidia, and Meta as part of a three-day visit to the US. Peña spoke to executives from the tech companies about opportunities for investment in Paraguay and the challenges of integration and connectivity in the region. He also spoke with the Paraguayan community of workers in technology companies in San Francisco, stating on social media that, “without a doubt, Paraguayan talent transcends borders and fills us with pride”. During his visit to the US, Peña also held a meeting with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan at the White House to discuss continued bilateral cooperation on shared security and economic priorities, including mobilising US private sector investment to develop Paraguay’s digital and physical infrastructure, and Paraguay’s interest in joining the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (Apep), an initiative launched by US President Joe Biden in June 2022. Following his trip to the US, Peña travelled to Taiwan, where he is attending the investiture of Taiwan’s new President Lai Ching-te today (20 May).
