Venezuela’s government has wheeled from condemning the reimposition of US sanctions in April to criticising the lifting of some European Union (EU) sanctions this week. The EU suspended its sanctions on the president of Venezuela’s national electoral council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso, and three former CNE rectors, in the hope of securing the entry of European observers to monitor the 28 July presidential election.
