ARGENTINA: Foreign policy pivot presents boost to military
At a ceremony on 2 April commemorating the anniversary of the start of the 1982 war over the Falklands Islands (Malvinas) with the UK, Argentina’s President Javier Milei called for “a new era of reconciliation with the armed forces” in a speech paying tribute to the Argentine veterans. This rhetoric comes amid various gestures by Milei aimed at shoring up his government’s relations with the armed forces as well as providing the military with more aircraft, investment, and opportunities to deepen cooperation with the US and allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato).
