Haiti’s new transitional presidential council is up and running, appointing a new prime minister to replace Ariel Henry. Its main priority will be restoring a semblance of peace in order to be able to stage the country’s first elections since 2016. This will be no small task and a democratically elected government remains a distant prospect.
