HAITI: Addressing Haiti’s prison crisis

Haiti’s new president, Jovenel Moïse, last month announced a new government commission to look into the country's parlous prison system and make recommendations to improve conditions for inmates. One of his first moves since taking office on 7 February [RC-17-02], Moïse’s announcement of the new nine member panel on 24 February, which will have a month to finish its review and submit a report, is in response to growing international concerns following a string of prisoners’ deaths since the start of the year.
