ECUADOR: Conaie gearing up for pre-electoral protest

Ecuador’s largest umbrella indigenous organisation, Confederación de Nacionalidades Indígenas del Ecuador (Conaie), has denounced the decision by the government led by President Rafael Correa on 12 January to extend a state of exception, declared in the south-eastern province of Morona Santiago on 14 December after the death of a police officer, for a further 30 days. Conaie called the measure “a clear provocation”.
