COLOMBIA: Facing economic challenges despite new tax reform

The Colombian government may have succeeded in pushing through the national congress a new tax reform designed to increase the tax take to allow it to increase spending in support of the domestic economy. But even with this, Colombia’s economic prospects for 2017 are less positive than may have been expected, with the country projected to post only moderate growth. The government led by President Juan Manuel Santos will have a tough final year of its term.
