Re-election struggle raises political tension in Paraguay

Development: On 13 January Paraguay’s Vice-President Juan Afara and the president of the ruling Asociación Nacional Republicana-Partido Colorado (ANR-PC) party, Deputy Pedro Alliana, headed a procession to the supreme electoral court (TSJE) armed with a petition containing 366,000 signatures calling for a referendum on whether to allow presidential re-election, which is presently outlawed by the national constitution.
