Biden meets Brazil’s Temer

Brazil: On 22 September in New York City, US Vice-President Joe Biden met with Brazil’s new president, Michel Temer. According to a White House press release, the meeting was held in order “to renew their friendship and discuss opportunities for deeper [bilateral] cooperation”. The press release notes that Biden‎ commended President Temer for his commitment to maintaining Brazil's regional and global leadership role during the recent period of political change in Brazil marked by the impeachment of former president Dilma Rousseff (2011-2016) and the confirmation of Temer as the new president in August. As well as discussing prospects for Brazilian energy reform and economic modernisation, the two leaders also pledged to “work together to promote legal and orderly migration in the hemisphere and deepen cooperation in Central America and Haiti”.
