Barro Blanco protests intensify in Panama

Development: On 25 May a handful of students from Panama’s state university, Universidad de Panamá (UP), were arrested when the police broke up protests in support of indigenous protesters opposed to the ‘Barro Blanco’ hydroelectric dam project located in the Ngäbe Buglé indigenous comarca (indigenous political administrative region), after the students blockaded the Trasistmica highway, a major Panama City artery.
