Panama’s Varela faces renewed unrest over Barro Blanco dam

Development: On 23 May police evicted indigenous protesters from the banks of the Tabasará River in Panama’s Chiriquí province – the site of the ‘Barro Blanco’ hydroelectric dam project, which lies within the Ngäbe Buglé indigenous comarca (indigenous political administrative region).
