Mexican governors propose legalising opium poppy production

Development: On 5 May the governor of Mexico’s central state of Morelos, Graco Ramírez, expressed his support for the legalisation of the cultivation of opium poppies for medicinal purposes, throwing his weight behind the governor of Guerrero state, Héctor Astudillo, who a day earlier advocated the launch of a pilot programme in the violence-riven south-eastern state.
