‘Red tide’ protest surges in Chile

Development: On 4 May protests by artisanal fishermen continued in Chile’s Chiloé archipelago, Los Lagos Region, after these rejected the Cl$100,000 (US$150) handout offered by the government led by President Michelle Bachelet to families affected by the ban on fishing ordered by the national authorities due to what scientists say is the biggest ‘red tide’ algal bloom event in Chile’s history.
