Cuba: On 1-4 February the US and Cuba held a technical meeting in Miami, Florida to discuss people trafficking and fraud prevention. According to a US State Department press release, “Working level representatives from both governments met for the purpose of exchanging information and best practices related to combatting human smuggling and travel document fraud, which is important to advancing both countries’ commitment to ensuring safe, legal, and orderly migration”. The statement notes that the US “remains concerned for the safety of all migrants throughout the region who attempt to enter other countries without a visa or other advance authorization and strongly discourage them from doing so”.
