As deadline passes, Paraguay’s guerrillas are hit hard

The deadline established by the guerrillas of the Ejército del Pueblo Paraguayo (EPP) for the release of prisoners in exchange for two hostages — 14 October — came and went without any sign that the government would budge from its refusal to comply. Instead, the government stepped up the search operations in the northern department of Concepción, which have resulted in a series of arrests. At the time of writing there had been no news about the fate of the two hostages.
