Caribbean: A 15 April news release from the US Coast Guard (USCG) detailed the seizure of an estimated 3,300kgs of cocaine worth an estimated US$110m. The haul was the result of two separate drug interdictions during a patrol in the southwest Caribbean as part of ‘Operation Martillo’. On 15 March, the boarding of a vessel suspected of smuggling drugs resulted in the discovery of approximately 97 bales of cocaine floating in the water nearby. The bales contained roughly 2,400kgs of cocaine worth an estimated US$80m. On 19 March, the USCG Cutter Legare pursued and disabled a Colombian-registered go-fast boat carrying 900kgs of cocaine worth around US$30m. The press release says that the USCG has seized 14,756kgs of cocaine with an estimated wholesale value of US$492m since 1 October 2013.
